TOKYO: The Tokyo Metropolitan Government announced on Tuesday that Governor KOIKE Yuriko will leave her official post this week because she needs rest due to excessive fatigue.

Governor Koike apologized that her voice was hoarse when she attended a meeting to discuss vaccinations with municipalities and medical associations after 3 p.m. on the same day.

Local Japanese media has reported that Koike is being hospitalized.

A COVID-19 infection has not been confirmed, but the official cause is “severe fatigue.”

Deputy Governor Mitsuchika Tarao will act as governor in the time being.
