TOKYO: Finance Minister ASO Taro said on Friday that Tokyo Governor KOIKE Yuriko, who is resting from overwork, must have “reaped what she sowed.”
The outspoken octogenarian politician said this during a speech supporting the LDP candidate in Ome City in the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly election.
Aso, known for his slip of the tongue, and occasional outrageous comments, pointed out that Tomin First Party, which Koike formed, had no national representation, so putting pressure on the Tokyo governor.
“They were unable to communicate with the government because there were no Diet members representing them,” Aso said. “Therefore, the governor does everything herself. She collapsed from overwork. Some people may sympathize with her, but it’s Koike herself who established such an organization.”
He criticized Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly members, saying, “They can’t talk unless they have someone connected to the LDP.”
Koike said she would rest for a few days, but with the Tokyo Olympics less than a month away and the coronavirus figures rising in Tokyo, she will be busy on her return.
