TOKYO: The Japanese government is closely watching the “unilateral humanitarian ceasefire” in the Tigray region declared by the Ethiopian government on June 28, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
“From the perspective of improving the humanitarian and human rights situation in the region, Japan continues to call for immediate and effective humanitarian access in the entire Tigray region, an immediate withdrawal of Eritrean forces and holding those responsible for human rights violations accountable in a prompt and tangible manner,” the ministry said.
The statement urged all parties concerned to take this opportunity to make further efforts to realize peace and stability in the Tigray region, and pledged Japan will continue to work with the international community towards the early settlement of the situation.
