TOKYO: Former Japan Prime Minister Naoto Kan appeared on the streets of Kawasaki to support his bid to become a parliamentarian in the general election to be held on October 31.

At Musashi Koganei station to the west of Tokyo, a crowd gathered to hear the former prime minister humbly introduce himself to his audience.

He recalled his time as premier when the tsunami struck eastern Japan and the Fukushima nuclear plant blew up. He called for the former directors of TEPCO (the operator of the Fukushima plant) to be held accountable for the nuclear accident.

Speaking to Arab News Japan, Naoto Kan pleaded for the shutdown of all nuclear power plants in Japan.
