TOKYO: Graffiti was scrawled on a sign at the Courthouse of Tokyo High Court on Monday, where officials and court staff observed gathered between 2:50 P.M. and 3:30 P.M. to observe the damage that was caused.

Someone had  carved “Shi” and “Né” in Katakana, the Japanese syllabary reserved for words of foreign origin. “Shine” is equivalent to telling someone to die in Japanese.

After noting the violation, the employees of the Court of Justice allowed the journalists to record the damage and then covered the sign so that the characters were hidden from the public.

The Tokyo Court of Justice deals with all kinds of criminal cases. Graffiti and damage on public buildings are very rare in Japan.
