TOKYO: An earthquake observing a maximum seismic intensity of 3 hit Iwate and Miyagi prefectures north of Tokyo at the Pacific Ocean coast at around 18:48 on November 23, according to Japan’s Metrological Agency.
The epicenter of the evening quake was off Miyagi Prefecture with Magnitude of 5.0 at the depth of approximately 50km, the agency said noting that there is no concern about tsunami caused by this earthquake.
Seismic intensity 3 was observed in wide areas in Iwate and Miyagi including Kesennuma City that was devastated by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
