TOKYO: An earthquake with a seismic intensity of 3 occurred in Ibaraki and Tochigi prefectures to the northeast of Tokyo on Sunday.
The magnitude 4.0 quake occurred at around 19:15 and the epicenter was in southern Ibaraki Prefecture to the east of Tokyo.
There have been a number of earthquakes in the central area of Honshu, Japan’s main island, in recent weeks, but all were lower than 5 on the Richter Scale.
Tokyo is “overdue” a large earthquake. The last very large quake in 1923 destroyed much of Tokyo.
