TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio indicated Friday that the country will consider taking diplomatic measures against North Korea, including sanctions, over its recent missile launches.

Japan’s Defense Ministry said the same day that the missiles fired by North Korea on Feb. 27 and Saturday were of the same type as the new intercontinental ballistic missile unveiled by North Korea at a military parade in the autumn of 2020.

“The firings (of ICBMs) are absolutely unacceptable,” Kishida told reporters.

The ministry had said that both missiles flew some 300 kilometers.

On this, Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi told a press conference Friday that “the launches may have been intended to test some functions (of the ICMB) before a test launch is carried out at its maximum range.”
