Japan has told Lebanon of its regret over former Nissan Motor Co. Chairman Carlos Ghosn's escape to the Middle East country, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said Tuesday.
Tokyo told Beirut that it is "extremely regrettable" that Ghosn has left Japan illegally and arrived in Lebanon, Suga said at a news conference.
Japan also asked Lebanon for cooperation to clarify the facts on Ghosn's escape, Suga said.
Asked about a possible request for Ghosn's extradition from Lebanon, Suga said it is necessary to carefully consider a partner country's laws and how to respond if a reciprocal step is sought.
