Perth, Australia: Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Saturday stressed that his government will respond appropriately to wild swings in the yen.
“Excessive fluctuations (of the yen) caused by speculative transactions are unacceptable,” Kishida told reporters in Perth, western Australia. “We’ll take appropriate measures to tackle this. We’ll uphold this policy.”
He declined to say whether the Japanese financial authorities conducted a yen-buying intervention.
Media report said that the dollar slumped against the yen in New York trading Friday due to the intervention.
