TOKYO: An earthquake that registered a magnitude of 3 on the Japanese scale, Shindo, struck the Tokyo region on Thursday evening.
The earthquake shook a wide area on both sides of the capital and was centered in Chiba Prefecture to the east of Tokyo. There was no danger of a tsunami.
The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of around 70 kilometers under northwestern Chiba Prefecture and had a seismic intensity of 3 on Japan’s 10-point scale.
After an initial jolt, a stronger tremor then shook buildings in central Tokyo and the nearby prefectures. No damage was immediately reported.
