Tokyo: Japan will provide some 22.4 billion yen in grant aid to Ukraine to support the reconstruction of the country, which has been invaded by Russia, the Foreign Ministry said Friday.
The aid will be for the supply of mine detection and clearance devices, and equipment for rebuilding power grids, among other items, to Ukraine.
The assistance, to be provided through the government-backed Japan International Cooperation Agency, will be used in dealing with mines and unexploded shells, removing debris, rebuilding people’s livelihoods and reconstructing the local agriculture industry.
In the field of livelihood support, information technology equipment will be provided for remote education.
In the agricultural sector, Japan will procure sunflower seeds from local farmers whose exports have been impeded for distribution to other farmers free of charge.
“Although the war is going on, we’re starting to do what we can to help rebuild Ukraine in the future,” a ministry official said. Japan has so far given emergency humanitarian and financial aid to Ukraine.
