TOKYO: Several thousand Japanese demonstrated in front of Japan’s parliament on Monday ahead of the final vote on the law to reform immigration in Japan.
According to the organizers, 5,500 people took part in the demonstration.
According the crowd IBUKI, a lawyer for the family of Wishma Sandamali, a young Sri Lankan who died in detention after being denied medical care, related another case of concern in Japan’s detention centers.
Ibuki said a doctor employed at a detention center for illegal immigrants in Osaka tested positive for alcohol, which, he explained, could severely affect the safety of detainees.
Representatives of various opposition parties called for the condemnation of the Minister of Justice, for the provision of aid and support to refugees who come to seek the protection of Japan, and for the withdrawal of the bill which, according to them, does not conform to the international treaty on the protection of refugees.
