AMMAN: The Jordanian Foreign Ministry announced on Sunday that it had evacuated 46 Jordanian citizens from Gaza.

Sufyan Qudah, the ministry’s spokesperson, said that 41 of the individuals who were evacuated were transported by boat from Nuweiba in Egypt to Aqaba in Jordan on a vessel operated by the Arab Bridge Maritime Company.

The remaining five arrived in Cairo, Jordan News Agency reported.

Qudah said that officials from the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) received the evacuated citizens and provided them with assistance and medical care.

Those who wanted to continue to Amman were transported by the ASEZA.

Qudah added that the total number of Jordanian citizens evacuated from the Gaza Strip to Egypt via the Rafah crossing now stood at 712, out of a total of 1,153 Jordanians registered with the ministry.

He said that a team from the Jordanian embassy in Egypt was still in place to monitor the evacuation process and assist Jordanians in the Gaza Strip.

Qudah emphasized that the evacuation process will last as long as necessary, employing a variety of methods.
