The Lebanese Ambassador to Japan Nidal Yehya met with Hori Otohiko, the Executive Director General of the Japanese Red Cross and senior associates from the organization on Thursday to thank them for the efforts put forth by Japan during their assistance in the embassy’s organization of a four-month donation campaign in support of  Lebanon after the massive explosion that occurred on August 4, 2020 at a port facility in Beirut, Lebanon.

Hori announced that the donations obtained through the Lebanese Relief Fund campaign amount to approximately $310,000 of which, of which $260,000 dollars were paid to the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva, Switzerland, which transfers the funds to the Lebanese red cross.

The Japanese Red Cross’ Executive Director General regarded the amount collected to be a great achievement for the embassy, considering that the disaster that occurred at the Beirut port facility in was not a natural one, such as earthquakes or volcanoes.

The embassy of Lebanon in Japan mentioned also mentioned that many of the Japanese donations provided in support of the embassy’s campaign have been directly transferred to Lebanon to companies such as CGM-CMA, Murex, AEON, Mitsubishi and KOMA, who donated an ambulance worth $80,000.

Consequently, the proceeds of donations to Lebanon obtained as a result of the campaign organized by the embassy of Lebanon in Japan and the Japanese Red Cross amounted to $500,000.
