In celebration of Japan’s national day, landmarks across the United Arab Emirates, including Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building and the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (Adnoc) headquarters in Abu Dhabi illuminated the colours of Japan’s national flag on Thursday.
The Burj Khalifa lit up in white and red, displaying a picture of the Japanese flag.
A video featuring the display on the tower as well as the Japanese national anthem were posted on the official Instagram and Twitter accounts of Burj Khalifa. Writing to it’s 1.9 million Instagram followers and it’s 429,000 Twitter followers, the posts said: “Burj Khalifa lights up in the Japanese flag, celebrating their National Foundation Day. We wish them peace and prosperity,” in both English and Arabic.

Meanwhile, the skyscraper on Abu Dhabi’s Corniche lit up with the messages “Prosperity through partnership” and “Providing energy for life together” in three different languages, including Japanese, Arabic and English.
Similarly, a video of the display was posted on the official Instagram and Twitter accounts of Adnoc. Writing to it’s 91,500 Instagram followers and it’s 63,000 Twitter followers, the posts said: “Happy National Foundation Day from your friends in the UAE,” in the same three languages.

As the name implies, the occasion is celebrated to commemorate the formation of Japan, and the ascension of Japan’s first emperor, Emperor Jimmu at Kashihara gū on Feb. 11, 660 BC.
