Japan strongly urges Iran to comply with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to immediately return to its commitment under the plan and to refrain from further measures that may undermine the JCPOA, a statement released here on Tuesday said.

The statement, by Press Secretary Ohtaka Masato, said Japan supports the JCPOA which contributes to strengthening the international non-proliferation regime and thereby to the stability of the Middle East.

“We also call upon Iran to fully cooperate with the IAEA based on the JCPOA and in accordance with all its nuclear obligations, in particular its Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement and the Additional Protocol,” said the statement.

On Thursday, November 7 (local time), Iran announced that it restarted uranium enrichment activities at the Fordow facility, which are restrained by the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“Japan will continue making its diplomatic efforts toward easing tensions and stabilizing the situation in the Middle East region in coordination with relevant countries and international organizations,” the statement said.
