Saudi Arabia expresses full trust in Japan’s Fukushima water release decision

DUBAI: Faisal bin Farhan Al-Saud, Saudi Arabia FM, expressed his trust in Japan’s efforts to discharge the ALPS treated water into the ocean during the first Japan-Saudi Arabia foreign ministerial level strategic dialogue.

Japanese foreign minister, HAYASHI Yoshimasa, explained that the tritium-containing water from the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear plant is treated and poses no hazardous threats while referring to the IAEA’s assessment in its comprehensive report.

The foreign ministers discussed methods to further enhance bilateral relations such as, Japan’s decision to introduce measures to ease the issuance of multiple-entry visas for Saudis who meet certain economic criteria, which was welcomed by Al-Saud.

They also expressed their expectations to implement cooperation projects to solidify the vision of the middle east becoming a global supply hub for clean energy and critical minerals.

HAYASHI and his counterpart shared frank views on issues regarding the Middle East and Ukraine and concurred to enhance close cooperation towards peace and stability; Al-Saud also shared Saudi Arabia’s support for Japan’s position regarding North Korea.
