RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s foreign minister has praised the Kingdom’s “deep” ties with Iraq during a meeting with Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi in Baghdad.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan said that he discussed growing relations between the two countries and common challenges with Al-Kadhimi on Thursday.

“Today I was pleased to visit Iraq, this country with which we have deep ties,” Prince Faisal said. “I discussed with Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi the bilateral relations that are growing steadily and common challenges.”

The prime minister was appointed in May after the country was rocked by protests and has promised to deliver reforms.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to Iraq Abdulaziz Al-Shammari met with Iraq’s Minister of Interior Othman Al-Ghanmi.

The two officials discussed bilateral relations, coordinating security efforts to combating terrorism and drugs and securing borders between the two countries.
