RIYADH: Saudi Arabia reiterated the need to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon on Thursday.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said that the Kingdom was keen on establishing security in the Middle East with Egypt.

Prince Faisal expressed his pleasure at being in the Egyptian capital and said that the two countries share “strong and solid relations.”

He added that political and security challenges faced by the Arab region were discussed during a meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry, including the importance of elections in Libya going ahead as planned.

“Libya’s stability is essential,” the Kingdom’s foreign minister said.

He added that there was a need for the Kingdom and Egypt to cooperate in the field of counterterrorism.

Meanwhile, Shoukry said his country is working closely with Saudi Arabia to achieve security and stability in the region.

“We have a special and strategic relationship with Saudi Arabia,” the Egyptian foreign minister said.
