RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent a cable of congratulations to Britain’s Prince William on the occasion of his appointment as the Prince of Wales, Saudi Press Agency reported on Saturday.

The crown prince expressed his congratulations and best wishes to the heir to the British throne, wishing him good health and happiness, as well as progress and prosperity to the UK, SPA added.

William was given the title of Prince of Wales, previously held by his father for more than 50 years, following the death of his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II last week.

His wife, the Duchess of Cambridge and Cornwall, Catherine, was also made Princess of Wales, a title last held by William’s mother Diana.

Prince William said he was “honored” to be made the new Prince of Wales, Kensington Palace said in a statement.

“The Prince acknowledged his and the Princess’s deep affection for Wales, having made their first family home in Anglesey including during the earliest months of Prince George’s life,” the statement said.
