Japanese anime film Promare, released in Japan in 2019, will be showing at cinemas in the GCC region starting Aug. 20 in Arabic and Japanese languages.

CEO of DarkWingz Productions Nassar Alnassar, who announced the release of the movie along with Empire Entertainment, spoke to Arab News Japan about plans for the Arabic dub of the animated movie, which was initiated in 2019.

“We started the process for the Arabic dub of the Promare movie in September 2019, and we were pleased to have a group of talented people in the movie’s voice acting cast such as the acclaimed Kuwaiti actor, Mr.Jasim Al Nabhan (Future Boy Conan, Kyoryu Daisenso Aizenborg, Machine Hayabusa & The Rose of Versailles) who has been a great mentor,” he said. “The talented actress Marwah Mohammed also made an amazing voice role in the movie.”

Alnassar explained that Promare is the second movie to be released in an Arabic dub in the Middle East. The first release was ‘Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms’ in 2018.

“We hope that the movie will be a successful release in the cinemas despite the major issues of COVID-19, which was one of the main reasons for delaying the release of the movie until this month,” he added.

The movie was nominated for an Annie Award in the Best Independent Animated feature category and performed very well in Japan and around the world, according to Alnassar.

Promare was directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and written by Kazuki Nakashima, both of whom had worked together on Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill.
