Anime’s popularity seems to be soaring with each passing year and that is solely due to Netflix.

The demand is so high that more than 100 million households, around the world, watched at least one anime title in 2020 as reported by Takai Sakurai, Chief Producer of Netflix for Anime, at the Netflix Anime Festival 2020.

Hoping to expand on the staggering popularity of the genre among viewers, the entertainment streaming giant has now confirmed five new anime original series to be released sometime in 2021.

They include Rilakkuma’s Theme Park Adventure, an expansion of the Rilakkuma franchise, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure spinoff Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, Thermae Romae Novae, thriller High-Rise Invasion, and The Way of the Househusband.

“In just four short years since launching our creative team in Tokyo, Netflix has expanded the reach and overall audience of anime – a category conventionally seen as niche,” said Taiki Sakurai.

“Given the success of shows such as Seven Deadly Sins and Baki, we are excited now more than ever to challenge ourselves to expand our aspirational anime programming for fans around the world.”
