Comiket event’s organizers recently announced that it will be returning in 2021, after it was canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The gathering of dojinshi independent manga creators, cosplayers, and pop culture enthusiasts will probably be held from May 2-5 at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center.

Organizers said that Comiket will not be as big as it usually is due to the current global situation. In 2019, the event, Comiket 98, drew in between 200,000 and 300,000 people daily.

However, Comiket 99, will only admit a fraction of those numbers. According to organizers, they will only be able to admit about 10,000 visitors a day.

Attendance applications have opened on Nov. 25 and will run through to Dec. 8. It will likely take on a lottery system in order to secure a pass.

Exhibitors and guests will be asked to follow precautionary COVID-19 measures, such as wearing face masks covering the nose and mouth.

Comiket organizers are also asking attendees to install the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare’s COVID-19 tracing app.
