“Referencing manga, music, nostalgia, and gaming, Dim Mak is a brand that cultivates community by bringing together collaborators while bridging people from all walks of life,” Sanrio’s website states, commenting on Aoki’s brand.
The collaboration is greatly informed by Aoki’s interest in Japan and his cultural roots, which he explored via manga and anime.
“Anime eyes convey emotion with unique levels and depth, so he was curious as to which iconic Sanrio characters could tell us more about themselves just by showing us their eyes for the first time…” Sanrio’s website outlines, offering clarity on the mission behind the collaboration.
The pieces in this collection can be purchased on Dim Mak and Sanrio’s websites, with apparel prices ranging from $38 to $85.
This collection includes an array of bleach washed and tie die shirts also adorned with colourful prints of Hello Kitty and other characters.
Customers can choose between short sleeve tees or longer crew neck shirts, all illustrated with colourful prints and branded with the Sanrio x Dim Mak logo.
