A robot is perfectly capable of making a cup of green tea – but so can a vending machine.
Why then would you need elaborate movements of various machine-guided arms just to get the blend right?
Because the robot is attempting to replicate the Japanese tea ceremony tradition – also called chadō – which blends the beverage with hospitality, and creates an ambience detached from the fast pace of everyday life.
Patrons who have experienced the beverage say the taste is close to the original green tea prepared in the traditional style.
Robots add ingredients in the right proportion and stir the mix using wooden sticks, in the same pattern followed during ceremonies.
