The first Saudi Japanese anime “The Journey,” made in collaboration with Riyadh-based Manga Productions company and Japan’s Toei Animation studios has been nominated for Best Experimental Film.

The nomination comes from The Septimius Festival in Amsterdam, set to take place in June.

A tweet was shared on the Manga Productions’ official Twitter page celebrating the nomination.

The Septimius Awards is a film festival that showcases and celebrates films and projects and is a “strong supporter of new talent and visionary ideas,” according to the official website. 

The Journey tells the story of Aws, a warrior, who leads a team into battle to defend the holy city of Makkah.
