UAE students perform Japanese show at university global day

Under the slogan ‘Sustainability Rooted in Diversity,’ the Office of Student Life at the Deanship of Student Services organized the UAE’s Ajman University (AU) Global Day 2023 on Feb. 27.

The festival was inaugurated by Dr. Karim Al-Saghir, the Chancellor of Ajman University, accompanied by the university cabinet and Dr. Nahla Al Qassimi, and Dr. Mohamed Helal, Director of Student Life.

The opening was attended by the deans of the faculties, a large number of members of the academic and administrative staff, and hundreds of AU students and guests.

Students from 30 countries participated in the AU Global Day 2023, where they competed in decorating their pavilions with expressive decorations, works of art, and heritage collectibles that express what distinguishes their countries. They also wore traditional clothes and served traditional foods for their countries.

The student communities also presented more than 18 artistic performances in dancing, singing, music and acting on stage such as Japanese performance with Shakuhachi music by Kyle Kamal Helou, which won the admiration of the audience.

These countries are the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Iraq, Syria, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Yemen, Turkey, Sudan, Libya, Morocco, Lebanon, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Japan, Korea, Algeria, Tunisia, France, Sri Lanka, USA, Philippines, Somalia and Nigeria. In addition to a special corner for small projects and another for the Emirates Red Crescent.

The theater performances opened with a fashion show of the traditional costumes of the participating countries, during which male and female students from each community displayed their traditional costumes, which are a distinctive identity of the culture of their countries.

Dr. Karim Al-Sagheer, the chancellor of AU, gave a speech on the stage in which he expressed his great admiration for this event, which expresses the beauty of diversity in the university in its best form, thanking all the efforts that have been made to make this day special in the university student’s life.

For her part, Dr. Nahla, the dean of student services, confirmed that the university students who participate in organizing this event are happy with their unique achievement and the experiences and skills they gained during organizing this unique event. Dr. Nahla explained that each of these pavilions is considered a project for students through which they demonstrated their creativity, talents and skills in management, organization and arts through their keenness to highlight all that is beautiful in their countries.

AU Global Day is the largest cultural event that celebrates the diversity of Ajman University, which hosts about 70 different nationalities of students.
