Japanese artist AUTO MOAI has collaborated with Japanese watchmaker Seiko to release limited edition pieces launching on May 14, priced at $584 USD.

There are two watches in this collection, both utilizing a minimalist white and black colour palette—a signature element of the Japanese artist’s style.

Both watches are made using a special strap, dial, case back and packaging illustrated with figures and designs by Moai.

The Seiko 5 Sports AUTO MOAI pieces have special serial numbers, and Seiko has outlined that there are only 1,500 pieces of the SRPG43K1 and 300 of the SBSA125J.

The uniqueness of these pieces are made evident by the nuanced details reflective of the artist, including the line illustration featured on the dial on both models.

The leather strap also includes “artworks exclusively designed for the collaboration watches. The worldview of AUTO MOAI, on your wrist,” the official website states, later highlighting similarities between the strap design and that of the packaging.

Seiko’s website also shares how “as a special feature of the limited edition, the “faceless figures” motif is illustrated on the caseback”

With every purchase, Seiko includes a booklet that includes Moai’s artwork created for this collaboration.

AUTO MOAI, “is an artist working in Japan with the theme “anonymity”. AUTO MOAI depicts the relationships between people who are tacitly connected to each other on the streets, which are hard to visualize, with faceless figure,” according to Seiko’s official website.

The 42.5 mm watches, have a power reserve of 41 hours and are also water resistant.
