The Beirut Zenon Lions Club, a humanitarian group in Lebanon, offered 450 Oximeters worth about $10,000 to several humanitarian and healthcare associations that care for both, elderly people and COVID-19 patients across the country, using donations attained from the “Pray for Beirut” Noh theatre charity event in Tokyo.

The “Pray for Beirut” charity event was organized by a long-time Lebanese resident in Japan Madeleine Abdel-Jalil Umewaka, her husband Noh Master Naohiko Umewaka, his colleague Master Shonosuke Okura and was held in partnership with the Lebanese Embassy in Japan following the massive explosion at the Beirut port in August last year.

In a show of support and solidarity of the people of Japan for Lebanon, the proceeds from the tickets for the event and a charity auction went to the Japanese Red Cross and UNESCO.

The spread of COVID-19 is compounding the woes of a country still reeling from the August 4 blast that killed at least 179 people and wounded 6,000, and a financial meltdown that has devastated the economy.

The charitable donations made possible by the help of fundraising campaigns organized in foreign countries provide Lebanon with much-needed support to mitigate the series of disasters that have piled up within the country.
