TOKYO: The Aquatics Center used in the Tokyo Olympics reopened its doors on Sunday to show off how it will be used by the public from 2023.

Around 1,000 people were able to get tickets to the reopening and were able to take a tour of the Olympic swimming pool and diving boards.

The visit allowed the public and the media to view the 15,000-seat venue, which had to remain empty during the Games due to the pandemic.

One of the visitors told Arab News he had seen the swimming competitions on television and was impressed by the sheer size of the architecture after the tour.

The city of Tokyo hopes that after its official opening, the Aquatics Center will see up to 1 million visitors annually.

More than a hundred competitions are being planned each year and the local government estimates that 150,000 users will be able to take advantage of the Olympic venue.
