Sharjah Women’s Sports Club won the team kumite event at the Karate Championship and took the top spot in the 2021–2022 sports season hosted by Sharjah Sports Club in Al Hazana.

Yazia Al Khalid, Maryam Mansour and Enas Al Salami were part of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Club team that won the karate title. Sharjah Self-Defence Sports Club, Golden Dragon Karate Club and Al Ahli Youth Club also took part in the competition.

Maryam expressed her joy at winning first place in the karate championship, pointing out that the squad faced stiff competition from other clubs’ players, but that the team’s cohesion contributed to the team’s success.

Maryam also hailed Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation (SWSF), for her unflinching support for women’s sports, as well as for providing female athletes with the means to achieve success and glory, resulting in numerous victories.

The club’s female players also won the bronze in the junior’s category of the kumite event.

Sharjah Women’s Sports Club was represented in the competition by Al Yazia Khaled, Jumana Al Agouz, Amna Barakat, and Fajr Lashkariah. The championship witnessed the participation of seven clubs including Sharjah Women’s Sports Club, Sharjah Self-Defense Sports Club, Golden Dragon Karate Club, Shabab Al Ahly Club, Sharjah Club, Al Dhaid Club, and Al-Khaleej Club.

Sharjah Women’s Sports Club’s Hawraa Al Ajmi, a prominent karate player, took part in the World League competitions held in Portugal from April 22-24.

It was the second championship for the player in 2022 after the league championship was held in Fujairah, and she achieved respectable results to reach the 40th world under-50kg rankings, especially since the tournament saw the participation of 342 players from 55 countries of the world.

Hawraa aspires to maintain her ranking and seeks to progress to better positions as well as gain experience from being in a World League tournament and preparing for all future tournaments.

Meanwhile, in a group game of the basketball competition, Sharjah Women’s Sports team defeated Sharjah Women’s Sports Team (Al Wusta branch) 48-39, while Jam Academy thumped Sharjah Women’s Basketball team (eastern region) 71-26.
