TOKYO: Japanese Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio and Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi held a telephone conversation on Tuesday to discuss the recent developments in Israel and Palestine.

Kishida said he is paying close attention to the situation in Israel and Palestine and expressed great concern over developments there. He stressed that Japan unequivocally condemns the recent terror attacks by Hamas and other Palestinian militants, especially the attacks on innocent civilians. He emphasized that there could be no justification for such actions.

The Prime Minister said he appreciated Egypt’s diplomatic efforts in response to the perilous humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and advised the President that Japan is donating $10 million in emergency humanitarian aid through international organizations for the citizens of Gaza.

Kishida added that Japan will continue working on communicating with Egypt and the parties concerned in order to try and bring calm to the area and improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Kishida asked for support from Egypt for Japanese nationals wishing to depart from the Gaza Strip to Egypt.

President El-Sisi explained Egypt’s diplomatic efforts to try and avoid a humanitarian crisis and stated that Egypt will continue to work together for the safe departure of Japanese nationals.

The two leaders agreed to maintain close cooperation between the two countries to help improve the situation in Gaza.
