Tokyo: The Japanese government on Monday condemned a recent attack by an Iranian drone against a Japanese-owned tanker in the Indian Ocean.

“We firmly condemn any act that interferes with the free and safe navigation of ships,” Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshi Moriya told a news conference.

There were no Japanese crew members on the tanker, Moriya said, adding that there was no damage to those on board the vessel or hindrance to its navigation.
