DUBAI: Japan’s Special Envoy for Middle East Peace UEMURA Tsukasa met with Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on March 27 to discuss efforts on halting Israel’s actions in Gaza.

According to the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the discussions covered efforts to halt Israel’s unilateral and illegal actions in the occupied Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip to mitigate their “severe” repercussions on the region.

Safadi told Uemura there an “urgent need” to cease Israel’s war on Gaza, stressing the importance to uphold international humanitarian law and to ensure the consistent delivery of humanitarian aid to the strip.

The Jordanian official expressed his appreciation for Japan’s support and its demand for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza after Japan voted in favor of the UN Security Council’s latest resolution.

Uemura lauded Jordan’s efforts to stop Israeli aggression and its facilitation of aid delivery in Gaza.

The Japanese envoy will be continuing his visit to the region by going to Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Qatar until April 3.
