TOKYO: Japan welcomed on Monday the statements calling for an immediate ceasefire in Libya, which were announced respectively by Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord Faiez Al-Serraj and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Aguila Saleh on Friday Aug. 21.

An official statement by the foreign ministry in Tokyo said Japan strongly hopes that, based on these announcements, measures for permanent ceasefire will be ensured promptly including through the discussions at the 5+5 Joint Military Commission and that the UN facilitated political process will be resumed.
