Tokyo: A courtesy meeting was held on Wednesday between Japan’s former prime minister Abe Shinzo and the ambassador of Jordan to Japan Ms. Lina Annab, Petra news agency reported.

During the meeting, Annab expressed Jordan’s appreciation for the friendly and strategic partnership between Jordan and Japan, which spans over seven decades of cooperation. Ambassador Annab also stated that Jordan highly values the direct assistance and support extended by the government of Japan to Jordan in its ongoing social and economic reforms and development, as well as Japan’s assistance and contributions through multilateral agencies in hosting refugees from neighboring countries.

In 2018, Jordan and Japan reached a historic milestone by upgrading bilateral ties to a strategic partnership which took place during former PM Abe’s second visit to Jordan in May 2018 leading to wider and more diversified bilateral relations.

The friendly relations between Jordan and Japan are rooted in respect and shared values. Solid bilateral ties are further bolstered by the deep and historical friendship enjoyed between Jordan’s Royal family and Japan’s Imperial family.

Annab also said Jordan welcomes and appreciates the significant efforts and engagement taken by the government of Japan in bringing peace and stability to the region. In particular, Japan’s support of the Middle East peace process and the two-state solution with future independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 lines.

Annab reiterated Jordan’s commitment to further advancing the strategic partnership with Japan leading to deeper coordination on various social, economic and political issues as well as on regional challenges and efforts to overcome them, including the fight against corona pandemic.

Former prime minister Abe is the longest serving prime minister in the history of Japan. During his latest term as prime minister Abe visited Jordan twice in 2015 and in 2018.
