TOKYO: The Japanese government is considering vaccinating citizens living abroad against COVID-19 at international airports in or near Tokyo, Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said Wednesday.
Speaking at a parliamentary committee meeting, Motegi cited Narita International Airport in Chiba Prefecture, Tokyo International Airport at Haneda and their nearby facilities as possible vaccination sites for those people.
Motegi said that Japanese citizens will receive same treatment both at home and abroad in terms of the timing and costs for vaccinations. Japan gives vaccination priority to elderly people and offers vaccines for free.
There were some 1.4 million Japanese citizens living abroad as of October 2019, a number that may have changed significantly amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, according to the Foreign Ministry.
