TOKYO: Gunfire was directed towards the North in Cheorwon-gun, South Gangwon-do, an area in front of the 5th Corps of the Korean Army on Friday, according to a spokesman for the General Staff of the North Korean People’s Army.

The General Staff of the North Korean People’s Army reportedly ordered the eastern and western front units to fire warning shots in the eastern and western waters on the 14th.

The North said this was intended to send “another clear warning to the enemy’s intentional provocations in the front line area.”

The North stated: “Our military will never ignore any provocative measures by the enemy that will intensify military tensions on the Korean Peninsula and will take thorough and overwhelming military countermeasures. The South Korean military should immediately stop reckless provocations that cause military tension on the front line.”
