SEOUL: North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan on Friday, the South Korean military said.
North Korea last fired a ballistic missile on Oct. 14. The country refrained from launching such a missile during the Chinese Communist Party’s five-yearly congress on Oct. 16-22, while conducting artillery firings toward the ocean during the period.
The latest ballistic missile launches might have been a retaliation for an outdoor maneuvering exercise conducted by the South Korean military from Oct. 17 to Friday, observers said. The exercise was partially joined by the U.S. military.
