TOKYO: Japan has condemned recent terrorist attacks that hit Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, and Shiraz in Iran.

Japan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement that said, “Japan, alongside the international community, has always strongly condemned terrorism in all forms and supports the international community’s fight against terrorism.”

Japan extended its condolences to those affected by the series of explosions that occurred in Mogadishu that reports say killed at least 100 people on Saturday.

The Foreign Ministry stated: “Japan hopes that efforts to establish peace in Somalia make further progress under H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, who was elected in May.”

Japan also “strongly condemned” the terrorist attack that occurred in the Shah Cheragh Shrine in Shiraz City in the southern region of Iran on October 26.

“Attacks against innocent civilians are unacceptable for any reason,” the Foreign Ministry statement said. “We express our heartfelt condolences to the victims and the bereaved families, and pray for the swift recovery of those who were injured.”

Fifteen people were reportedly killed in the attack on the Shrine.
