TOKYO: In line with other countries around the world, Japan has imposed new entry restrictions on travelers from China.

From January 8, all travelers and returnees coming from China (except Hong Kong and Macau) by direct flights will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test certificate conducted within 72 hours prior to departure.

Japan also altered its previously announced policy of limiting entry to Narita International Airport, Haneda Airport, Kansai International Airport, and Chubu International Airport, which was announced on December 27.

It now says direct flights coming from Hong Kong and Macau will be allowed to land at airports other than those listed above providing “quarantine capacity is sufficient.” However, it asked airline “not to increase the number of flights over a certain amount” in view of the new testing and quarantine procedures.
