TOKYO: Japan’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs YAMADA Kenji, as a special envoy to Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio, on Saturday attended the inauguration ceremony of Turkiye president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The ceremony was held at the Presidential Palace in Ankara.

Following the ceremony, a dinner was hosted by President Erdogan with the participation of delegates of various countries.

State Minister Yamada attended the dinner on behalf of the Government of Japan.

Yamada told President Erdogan that he carried with him a personal letter from Prime Minister Kishida to the President and congratulated President Erdogan on his re-election.

Erdogan defeated opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu in the May 28 election runoff, stretching his rule into a third decade.

Erdogan said among the government’s main priorities would be fighting inflation and healing the wounds from the catastrophic earthquake on February 6 that claimed more than 50,000 lives in Turkiye and neighboring Syria.
