TOKYO: Japan’s Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio extended his condolences on Saturday evening on the passing of Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad al-Sabah and said Japan has lost a great friend and a brave leader.

“On behalf of the Government of Japan and the people of Japan, I would like to express my deepest condolences to the Government of Kuwait and the people of Kuwait. I cannot help but feel deeply saddened by this news,” Kishida said in a statement.

“Sheikh Nawaf built close relationships with various countries and played an important role in achieving peace and stability in the Gulf and Middle East regions. He also used his outstanding wisdom and inclusiveness to contribute to domestic reconciliation and maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East,” Kishida said.

“The passing of His Highness Sheikh Nawaf, a brave leader, is a great loss not only to the people of Kuwait but also to the international community. Japan will always stand with Kuwait as the people of Kuwait overcome this deep sadness,” the Japanese prime Minister said.
