Arab News

DUBAI: Egypt will not reimpose a complete or partial lockdown if there is a second wave of COVID-19 in the country, national daily Ahram Online reported citing health minister Hala Zayed said.

“This is the lesson we learned from the first wave; that countries should not resort to this strategy the way they did during the first wave, but should rather respond to surges in cases within localized [population] clusters,” Zayed said.

She added that all preventive measures will remain in place in the future.

Egypt has started to gradually ease restrictions since June by lifting night-time curfews, reopening restaurants and places of worship, and resuming passenger flights.

The health minister added that all countries including Egypt are ready to encounter a second coronavirus wave.

She added that home quarantine has caused a quick recovery of 85 percent of mild cases in the country.

Egypt’s total number of coronavirus infections has reached 104,648 with 6,062 deaths and 97,743 recoveries.
