Saudi Arabia expresses condolences to South Africa for victims of Johannesburg building fire

DUBAI: Saudi Arabia’s foreign ministry on Saturday extended its deepest condolences to the South African government after a deadly fire in Johannesburg killed 74 people and injured 50 others. 

The Saudi ministry said it stands by the people and government of South Africa during this difficult time, a statement on its official Twitter account said. 

“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia extends its sincere condolences to South Africa’s government and people for the victims of the building fire in Johannesburg city.”

“The ministry stresses that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia unwavering support for the South African government and people in this terrible catastrophe.” 

A blaze in a five-storey building, which was being occupied by homeless people, has killed 74 people, including 12 children. Officials say the cause of the deadly fire is unclear.
