Tourists visiting Japan can now stay at a traditional townhouse—referred to as a machiya—in Kyoto’s Candeo hotel for ¥8,800 per person per night.

The hotel brings together tradition and contemporary interior decorated using woods and warm lighting.

“The Kyo-machiya (former Ban family residence which is a traditional Kyoto style house), designated as a registered tangible cultural property by Kyoto city, has been preserved and renovated, and redesigned as a lounge. It offers the experience of staying in a traditional Kyo-machiya as if you were living there,” the official website states.

Guests can relax at the onsen, make use of the bath and steam room, admire the stone courtyard, or lounge in the lobby—formerly a kimono shop.

“The large bathtub has a luxurious structure with enough space to fully stretch out your arms and legs. You can take a leisurely bath in this extraordinary space, with a feeling of openness. And with many shower booths to avoid congestion, you can take your time to unwind at your own pace,” the official website states regarding the onsen.

Guests can also enjoy the hotel’s bento box breakfast, and can reserve their preferred slot at check-in.

Visitors also have the option of selecting the Private Spa Twin, Private Spa King, Executive King, among others rooms.
