TOKYO: The Korean Peninsular is facing a thermonuclear war according to a statement by The Korean Central News Agency on August 22. The implicit threat, was made in response to military exercises between the US and South Korea. North Korea has been aggressive in labeling the joint US and South Korean exercises as a “nuclear war rehearsal” with accusations that the exercise is using US nuclear-powered aircraft carriers and submarines, as well as B1B and B52H strategic bombers. North Korea has also been explicit in labeling Australia, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Greece, Italy, New Zealand and the Philippines as war criminals and said that taking part in a such an exercise calls for an aggressive, proactive full war response by the armed forces, according to the agency.   The KCNA commentary was filled with what has become on ongoing belligerent rhetoric containing accusations and suspicion that the US is carrying out “invasion exercises” to provoke a nuclear war on the Korean Peninsula. They claim that the recent summit between the US, South Korea and Japan was to plan occupation and destruction with a “scorched earth” policy. The agency’s commentary concluded with an accusation that the Camp David agreement was a conspiracy and in threatening terms said that if any exercise using human and material resources of the United States and their allies were put into practice, the likelihood of a nuclear war would become an imminent reality. They claimed that the entire Korean armed forces were ready to protect the sovereignty of North Korea and the right to life of its people for generations and centuries.
