The North Korean envoy for diplomatic normalization with Japan suggested in a statement on Thursday that his country may fire an intermediate - or long-range missile over Japan.

In the statement reported by Pyongyang's official Korean Central News Agency, Song Il Ho said that North Korea would do what it should, while ignoring an isolated Japan, if Japan tries to challenge his country due to anxiety and fear from a flying object passing over the island nation.

Also in the statement, Song denounced Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for criticizing a recently reported successful test by North Korea on its superlarge multiple rocket launch system as a "clear violation" of U.N. Security Council resolutions.

The North Korean envoy claimed that Abe had complained about North Korea's self-defense efforts and should never dream of coming to Pyongyang.
