The Japanese and US governments pledged Friday to strengthen their alliance under the bilateral security treaty.
In a joint statement to mark the 60th anniversary of the signing of the so-called new security treaty, foreign and defense ministers of Japan and the United States reiterated their "unshakable commitment" to strengthening the alliance and upholding "common values and principles toward the future."
The ministers also said the alliance "has played and will continue to play an integral role in ensuring the peace and security" of the two countries while "realizing our shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific."
